  • No account. No sign-in.
  • Your journal stays on your phone and your own iCloud.
  • Your voice and page photos are never kept.
  • We count taps, never read words.

What stays with you

  • Your journal. Your reads and their covers, your postcards (thoughts and quotes, with their stamps, @names and spoilers), reading time, goals and the days you added from before Readay are stored on your iPhone. If iCloud sync is on, they sync through your private iCloud database. We can't see it, and we have no servers holding it.
  • Your voice. Speaking a thought streams the microphone into Apple's speech recognition on your phone. It's typed up there and nothing is recorded: no audio is saved, sent to iCloud or sent to us, and it never falls back to a server.
  • Photos of a page. A page you scan for a quote is read on your phone and then discarded. Only the words you keep are saved.
  • Cover photos. A photo you choose as a read's cover is saved with that read and syncs through your iCloud like the rest of your journal.

What leaves your phone

  • Catalogue search, through Open Library: when you search for a read to add, the words you type go to openlibrary.org, and the cover you pick comes from covers.openlibrary.org. Nothing else from your journal is sent. You can add a read by hand instead.
  • Anonymous usage, through PostHog: counts and yes-or-no events, like "a postcard was saved", plus crash reports. Never a title, a quote, a thought, a name or a photo. There's no account, so none of it is linked to you.
  • Purchase status, through RevenueCat: whether Readay Pro is active. Apple handles payment. We never see your card.

What we don't do

No ads. No tracking across apps or websites. We don't sell or share data. The only services involved are Open Library, PostHog, RevenueCat and Apple, each under their own privacy policy.

Your choices

Turn iCloud sync off in Readay's Settings to keep the journal on this phone only. Deleting the app removes the journal from your phone and stops all analytics. The iCloud copy can be removed from iPhone Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.

Children

Readay isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.
